Digital Twins for Electrical Installations
ABB is a world leading supplier of motors and variable speed drives, having produced more than 70 million machines globally.
IoT technologies are used for monitoring and computing models are produced automatically for ABBs machinery but the data collected cannot be used together with the models. Variable parameters that may affect the actual functioning of the machinery are sometimes fixed during installation which means that they are not fully accounted for by automatically generated models. Such parameters include the surface on which the machine is mounted and secured.
Using the Eclipse Arrowhead framework, machine learning digital twins can be created that combine actual operating information from the IoT devices with the computing models. This means that the evolution of the machinery can be followed and managed more accurately throughout its lifetime. Combining IoT edge devices, computing models and digital twins through Eclipse Arrowhead local clouds also creates a system that can be easily adapted and expanded as circumstances require.
