Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning for the Steel Industry
Key players in the steel sector met online at the recent ESTEP workshop to discuss the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) represent for the steel industry.
Eclipse Arrowhead project coordinator Prof Jerker Delsing presented a keynote address focused on the implementation of AI and ML. In the address he explained the potential for AI to convert the enormous quantities of multimodal data produced in industrial activity into information that can provide useful insights, make production processes more efficient and improve products. Delsing explained the challenges of AI bottlenecks and how we can work to address those through interoperability and strategic approaches to data generation.
ESTEP is the European Steel Technology Platform with a membership that brings together stakeholders in the European Steel Industry including steel manufacturers, manufacturers who rely heavily on steel, government bodies and research institutions. ESTEPs aim is to work collaboratively to promote a highly competitive and sustainable European steel industry.
