Open Standards Continue to Make Inroads

A fundamental principle in the Arrowhead Framework is the use of open, publicly available, international standards. These standards form the basis for the large-scale collaboration and development that is necessary to create efficient, sustainable workplaces, markets, products, services and organizations for future generations. One of the standards currently addressed by the Arrowhead Tools project is the use of ISO 10303.

Standards like ISO10303, based on STEP (Standard Exchange for Product model data) extend the use of electronic technologies allowing applications to use 3D models as part of their application engineering. Using 3D models represented according to established STEP standards will improve the quality of the validation and verification process for automation solutions. Interestingly, Russia recently extended the use of ISO10303 to also include the field of patent application, further underpinning the importance of standardised and interoperable data models.
